Carlos Gardel

Carlos Gardel is the first tango singer - he recorded "Mi Noche Triste (My Sad Night) in 1916. On top of his beautiful voice he created a way to express tango and it is said that all the singers afterwards were influenced by him. Even Aníbal Troilo said that if he had a voice he wanted to be a singer like him, but instead he plays bandoneon imitating Gardel's voice.

He was a singer, composer, a movie actor, and was a international star at the time. He died in a plane crash in 1935 right when Buenos Aires was about to enter the Golden Age of tango.
